Description of Pirelli Cinturato Velo TLR Tubeless Folding Tire - 622

Pirelli’s experience and the reliability of SmartNET™ Silica technology combined with the tubless-ready comfort and the resistance of the Armour Tech™ technology facilitated the creation of a new clincher tyre with a unique DNA, perfect for long-distances and various terrains.

  • Armour Tech™ construction combines a Nylon bead-to-bead high density layer to an aramid breaker and aramid fibers dispersed into the tread, resulting in a new level of protection against the worst road conditions which has never been achieved before
  • SmartNET™ Silica rubber compound guarantees safe rides and confidence-inspiring handling even in harsh conditions
  • Sizes from 26-622 up to 35-622 make it ready for Granfondo riding as well as long adventures rides, all in a tube and/or TLR configuration

Tread & Rubber Compound

Made from Pirelli's innovative SmartNET™ Silica and ICS and FGD technologies, Cinturato provides all-round cycling excellence. Thanks to its nano-rod conformation and the resulting network generation, coupled with the natural chemical water affinity of the Silica itself, it solves the traditional trade-off of rubber compounds, ranking high on opposite features such as rolling and wet grip, mileage and puncture protection.

An aramid fiber belt located underneath the tread in order to protect the casing from sharp objects: aramid is a fiber with high cut and abrasion resistance. Its light weight and flexibility also ensure rolling efficiency and overall performance of the tyre.

Bead to Bead

A high density nylon layer belt extended from one bead to the other, all the way around the casing and underneath the tread and an aramind breaker, to protect the casing from sharp objects and provide support for low pressure riding: Nylon is a fiber with high cut and abrasion resistance and high tensile strength. Its lightweight nature and high density also helps make the tyre air tight combined with sealant use in tubeless-ready configuration.

TLR Bead Profile

A specific shape of the bead profile which matches with tubeless-ready rim hooks, plus a specific bead material and specification that allows for easy mounting with the inner tube while keeping proper tubeless bead engagement if used with a sealant in a fully tubeless ready configuration.

Developed over a 127tpi casing, the tread features Pirelli Functional Design Groove and Ideal Contour Shaping technologies: the casing textile is designed to match contour for optimal footprint, while a different crown and sidewall radius guarantee controlled and specific tire deformation at different speeds and lean angles. On top of this, the lightning bolt groove design, derived from our experience in motorbike racing tire design, adds optimal water drainage at different angles and force loads, while ensuring low noise output and quickwarm uptimes, for immediate maximum grip levels, period.

SmartNET™ Silica

Pirelli SmartNET™ Silica technology delivers high rolling efficiency, thanks to its natural anisotropic orientation, which reduces heating while increasing elasticity, to help minimise energy dissipation.
Enjoy highly reliable wet grip. The wide surface of the silica rod molecules enhances its natural water affinity, delivering confident handling on wet.
Puncture resistance and extensive mileage. Pirelli’s SmartNET™ Silica compound features microscopic rod-shaped particles, that are arranged systematically, rather than chaotically, creating a strong, long-lasting tyre.

Please note: Do not fit on TSS (hook-less) rims of if inner rim width is greater than 20C.
Included in delivery: one tire

Note: Tubeless Ready tires require tubeless compatible rims/wheels, tubeless valves, tubeless rim tape and sealing fluid for tubeless mounting. Sealant fluid is not required for tubeless UST tires, but is recommended for increased puncture protection. Installation should only be carried out by qualified personnel.

Customer Reviews
Puncture Proof up to a certain point
I ran Pirellis in 28 mm and 35 mm:
+ very easy installation. No tire levers on my rims necessary.
+ good rolling resistiance, but not as good as the Pirelli 4S
+ good puncture resistance. I had, as far as I remember 5 "holes" that would not close in tubeless since March 2019. That is almost half a year. Within that time I have ridden ca. 10.000km with them on two differente bikes.
+ I would only recommend to run them tubeless
+ Better in puncture protection then Conti Four Seasons (in my opinion)
+ good on gravel, better on tarmac

- Durability. I feel they could be a little bit more durable (I needed 6 pairs already. They wear down after 3000km for sure.)
- +loose air quite frequently. So watch out...Or just me
I have used the 28 mm version. No punctures and barely a scratch after riding gravel (not the kind with bigger sharper rocks though) and rolls fast enough so I rarely felt at a disadvantage in group rides on smoother roads. Definitely not a road racing tire though, especially considering they are also quite heavy.
I have the 35 mm version. It’s not too heavy for a puncture protected tyre, rolls really good, fantastic in corners and reliable on gravel. One thing to note is that manufacturer only mentions via small text on the box is that if you use rims wider than 21 mm tubeless setup is impossible. Highly recommended.
