These rear lights are the core of the Varia series. They use microwave radar to detect approaching vehicles and warn you through paired devices using color-coded cues: green for clear, yellow for traffic approaching, and red for fast-approaching vehicles.
High-end Varia models expand the proven radar rear-light concept with an integrated dashcam that includes automatic incident detection. If an incident is detected, the system automatically saves footage from before, during, and after the event – ideal for documenting critical situations on the road.
Garmin Varia Vue StVZO – Front Lights with Dashcam
To complement the radar rear lights, Garmin offers the Varia Vue – an StVZO-approved front light with its built-in dashcam. It covers the front of your setup and, paired with a Garmin Varia rear light with a dashcam, helps you capture entire overtaking maneuvers. When you pair the Vue with an Edge bike computer, it actively adjusts brightness to your speed and the surrounding light. And thanks to electronic image stabilization, you get clear, usable footage even when the terrain gets rough.

The system can distinguish between vehicle types and lets you know how many are approaching and how quickly they’re closing in.
Smart Auto-Brightness – Adapts to Your Ride
Paired with compatible Edge bike computers, Varia lights adjust their brightness automatically. The Vue front light increases its output at higher speeds and conserves battery at lower speeds. It also responds to ambient light – switching to a brighter mode at dusk and saving energy during daytime riding.
Dashcam with Automatic Incident Detection – Incident Footage
Garmin lights with a dashcam record continuously and overwrite older footage in a loop. If the built-in accelerometer detects an incident, the system automatically saves the relevant clips from before, during, and after the event in a protected folder. The Vue’s electronic image stabilization makes sure the footage is clear, even on rough ground. You can upload recordings to Garmin Vault via Wi-Fi or edit them in the Varia app with data overlays.
